OpenAI is teaming up with Grab, Southeast Asia's ride-hailing and delivery giant, to teach 30,000 drivers and merchants how to use AI — in person.
OpenAI and Grab launched GO Forward with AI, a training programme for 30,000 of Grab's driver, delivery and merchant partners. Over the next two years it will run half-day, in-person workshops built on OpenAI Academy materials, where participants practise using ChatGPT Work to chart sales data and draft business plans. It starts in Singapore, reaches Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines this year, and Malaysia and Vietnam in 2027.
AI training tends to mean online courses for office workers and developers. This one targets people who run what are essentially one-person businesses from a phone, and it teaches them face to face. The same week, OpenAI said its Academy had reached more than 4 million people in two years and began piloting a programme to train partner staff as local instructors. The direction is clear: rather than teaching everyone itself, OpenAI is spreading through partners' own front lines, like Grab's.
Whether Grab or OpenAI publishes numbers on how trained merchants' sales or working hours change, and whether the 30,000 seats actually fill across six countries.
